Does hepatitis C qualify for a medical card in Mississippi?

Yes. The Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program lists Hepatitis as a qualifying condition. A Mississippi-licensed provider still has to evaluate you and agree that cannabis is appropriate.

About hepatitis C

A viral liver infection; patients often seek relief from treatment side effects.

Not enough research. There is little good research on cannabis for this condition specifically. Patients usually use it for related symptoms such as pain, muscle spasms, nausea or poor sleep, where some evidence exists.

Symptoms Mississippi patients most often hope to ease:

  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Nausea and poor appetite
  • Joint and muscle aches
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Anxiety or low mood during diagnosis and treatment
Before you start. Liver disease can slow how cannabis is processed, so effects may be stronger and last longer than expected. CBD can raise liver enzymes and can affect how some medicines are processed, so ask your pharmacist to check it against your antiviral regimen.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need medical records for hepatitis C?

Helpful records include: lab results confirming hepatitis C infection, such as a viral load test; recent liver tests and any reports from liver scans or fibrosis tests; notes from your liver specialist or infectious disease doctor, including antiviral treatment history. Many patients are still evaluated on their history alone, and your Mississippi provider will tell you if more is needed.

How long does certification take in Mississippi?

The provider visit takes about 15 minutes. 10-day review; card available within 5 days of approval.

Can I renew online in Mississippi?

In most cases, yes. Certification and the card are good for one year. Renew annually through the portal with a new certification, which can be done by telehealth if your practitioner has already seen you in person. The fee is the same as for a new card.
