Getting started

How do I get a medical marijuana card online?

Pick your state and answer a few questions about your health. A doctor licensed in your state meets you by video for about 15 minutes. If they approve you, they file your certification and we help you finish your state's registry application.

How much does a medical marijuana card cost?

There are two separate costs. Our evaluation starts at $79 and you pay it only if the doctor approves you. Your state may also charge a registry fee, which you pay to the state directly — it ranges from $0 to about $200 depending on where you live.

What if the doctor doesn't approve me?

You aren't charged. We don't take payment until after approval, so there's nothing to refund.

How fast will I get my card?

The doctor files your certification after an approved visit. How fast the state issues the card depends on your state — some issue a digital card within hours, others take a few weeks. Use the state checker above to see your timeline.

The doctor visit

What do I need for the video visit?

A phone or computer with a camera, a stable internet connection, a quiet private spot, and a government photo ID. Most states also need proof that you live there — usually your driver's license is enough.

What will the doctor ask?

About your symptoms, how long you've had them, what treatments you've tried, the medications you take now, and your medical history. Be honest — it's confidential and it helps the doctor recommend the right products and doses.

How long is the visit?

About 10 to 15 minutes for a new card, and often less for a renewal.

When are visits available?

During our opening hours (Mon–Sun, 8am–10pm ET). After your free check, our care team contacts you to find a time that works.

Do I need medical records?

Usually not. Records help if your condition isn't obvious from a conversation, and a few states ask for them. Your doctor will tell you if you need anything.

Is there a membership or auto-renewal?

No. You pay once per evaluation. We'll remind you before your card expires, but we never charge you automatically.

Does insurance cover a medical marijuana card?

No. Because cannabis is still illegal under federal law, health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid don't cover the evaluation or the products. Some states lower their registry fee for veterans or people on assistance programs.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Usually not. Most HSA and FSA administrators treat cannabis-related costs as ineligible.

Privacy and the law

Is my visit private?

Yes. Visits run on a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Your answers go to your doctor and to the state registry only when you apply. We never sell your data or share it with employers or insurers.

Will my employer find out?

Not from us. We never contact employers. Your state registry is confidential too. Workplace drug policies still apply, though — a card doesn't always protect you from a failed drug test, especially in safety-sensitive jobs.

Can I own a firearm with a medical card?

Federal law bars people who use cannabis from buying or owning firearms, even with a state card. Talk to a lawyer if this matters to you.

Is a medical card legal under federal law?

State programs are legal under state law. Cannabis is still illegal federally, so don't cross state lines with it or bring it onto federal property, including national parks.

Using your card

Can I use my card in another state?

Some states honor out-of-state cards, some let visitors register, and many don't accept them at all. Check the rules for the state you're visiting before you travel.

Can I renew my card online?

Yes, in most states — including states where the first visit must be in person. You can renew with us even if your first card came from someone else.

Can I grow my own?

Some states let patients grow a small number of plants at home and some don't. Your state page lists the limit.

Can someone pick up cannabis for me?

Yes, in most states — by registering a caregiver. Caregivers usually need to be 21 or older and pass the state's checks.
