Does anxiety qualify for a medical card in Oklahoma?

Very likely. Oklahoma doesn't limit certification to a fixed list — providers can recommend cannabis for conditions they believe it will help. That includes patients with anxiety when the provider agrees it's appropriate.

Yes. Oklahoma has no qualifying-condition list; any qualified physician may recommend medical marijuana using the standards a reasonable and prudent physician would follow for any medication.

About anxiety

Anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. They're among the most common mental health conditions in the US.

Limited evidence. Evidence is limited. The National Academies found limited evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) improves anxiety symptoms in a public-speaking test for people with social anxiety. THC can ease anxiety at low doses for some people and worsen it at higher doses for others.

Symptoms Oklahoma patients most often hope to ease:

  • Racing thoughts and constant worry
  • Trouble falling asleep because of a busy mind
  • Muscle tension and restlessness
  • Feeling on edge in social or work situations
  • Physical stress symptoms such as a tight chest or upset stomach
Before you start. THC can worsen anxiety and trigger panic attacks, especially at higher amounts or with high-potency products. Cannabis can add to the drowsiness of benzodiazepines, sleep medicines and alcohol.

The provider visit takes about 15 minutes. Within 14 business days.

Can I renew online in Oklahoma?

In most cases, yes. Licenses last up to two years and are renewed through the OMMA MedPortal with a new physician recommendation and the license fee.
