Anxiety and medical marijuana in Virginia: do you qualify?
Very likely. Virginia doesn't limit certification to a fixed list — providers can recommend cannabis for conditions they believe it will help. That includes patients with anxiety when the provider agrees it's appropriate.
Yes; there is no condition list, and the practitioner decides whether any diagnosed condition or disease may benefit from cannabis.
About anxiety
Limited evidence. Evidence is limited. The National Academies found limited evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) improves anxiety symptoms in a public-speaking test for people with social anxiety. THC can ease anxiety at low doses for some people and worsen it at higher doses for others.
Symptoms Virginia patients most often hope to ease:
- Racing thoughts and constant worry
- Trouble falling asleep because of a busy mind
- Muscle tension and restlessness
- Feeling on edge in social or work situations
- Physical stress symptoms such as a tight chest or upset stomach
