Utah medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program
Answers to the questions Utah patients ask most, based on the Utah Medical Cannabis Program's own guidance.
Can I get my first Utah medical cannabis recommendation by telehealth?
No. Your first visit with a new provider must be in person. Renewal visits with that provider can be done by telehealth.
How much does an Utah medical cannabis card cost?
The state card fee is $15 for both new and renewal applications. Provider visit fees are separate.
How long does approval take in Utah?
The Department of Health and Human Services typically reviews applications within two business days. You then download the card from the EVS.
Can visitors use medical cannabis in Utah?
Yes, if they hold a valid medical card from their home state for a condition Utah recognizes. They can apply for a non-resident card that lasts 21 days, up to twice per calendar year.
How much medical cannabis can I have in Utah?
You may hold a 30-day supply based on your provider's dosing guidance, and never more than 113 grams of flower or 20 grams of total THC in other products.
What if my condition isn't on Utah's list?
Your medical provider can submit a petition to the Compassionate Use Board asking for approval for a condition not on the list.
