7 things to know about New Mexico's medical marijuana program

New Mexico's Medical Cannabis Program began in 2007 under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act. The Department of Health runs it. A New Mexico provider who can prescribe controlled substances starts the application in the state's online portal. The patient then logs in, uploads a New Mexico ID and submits. The program charges no enrollment fee, typically processes portal applications in about five business days and issues an electronic card. Patients can apply for a personal production license to grow at home. They buy without state cannabis taxes, within a limit of 425 units every 90 days. Adult-use cannabis is also legal for anyone 21 and older.
