7 things to know about Florida's medical marijuana program

Florida's medical marijuana program is run by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use within the Florida Department of Health. A patient first sees a qualified physician, who confirms a qualifying condition and enters the patient and an order into the state's Medical Marijuana Use Registry. The patient then applies online or by paper for a registry ID card and pays $75. After approval, the patient can buy from licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers, which are the only businesses allowed to grow, process and sell. Both permanent and seasonal Florida residents qualify. Cards must be renewed every year, home growing is not allowed, and out-of-state cards are not accepted.
