Florida medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program

Answers to the questions Florida patients ask most, based on the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Program's own guidance.

Can I get my first Florida medical marijuana certification online?

No. Florida law requires an in-person physical exam with a qualified physician for the first certification. After that, the same physician may do your follow-up evaluations by telehealth.

How much does a Florida medical marijuana card cost?

The state registry ID card fee is $75 and it must be renewed every year. Physician visit fees are separate and set by each doctor.

How long does it take to get my card?

The Office of Medical Marijuana Use says online applications take about 10 business days on average. Paper applications sent by mail take a few extra days.

Can I grow my own marijuana in Florida?

No. Florida law only lets licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers grow, process and dispense marijuana.

I'm a snowbird — can I qualify?

Yes, seasonal residents can qualify if they live in Florida at least 31 consecutive days each year and keep a temporary residence there. You will need to provide two documents proving your Florida address, such as a lease and a recent utility bill.

Does Florida accept my medical card from another state?

No. Florida does not offer reciprocity, so only patients registered in Florida's system can buy from treatment centers.
