Does fibromyalgia qualify for a medical card in Connecticut?

Yes. The Connecticut Medical Marijuana Program lists Spasticity or neuropathic pain associated with fibromyalgia as a qualifying condition. A Connecticut-licensed provider still has to evaluate you and agree that cannabis is appropriate.

About fibromyalgia

Widespread muscle pain with fatigue, sleep problems and trouble concentrating.

Moderate evidence. The National Academies found moderate evidence of improved short-term sleep in fibromyalgia; pain studies are small.

Symptoms Connecticut patients most often hope to ease:

  • Widespread aching pain
  • Poor, unrefreshing sleep
  • Muscle stiffness and tenderness
  • Fatigue that does not improve with rest
  • Anxiety and low mood
Before you start. THC can worsen fibro fog, memory and focus, especially in higher amounts. Cannabis can add to the drowsiness of pregabalin, gabapentin, amitriptyline, muscle relaxants and opioids.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need medical records for fibromyalgia?

Helpful records include: a fibromyalgia diagnosis letter or notes from your primary care doctor or rheumatologist; a list of treatments you have tried, including medicines, physical therapy and counseling; your current medicine list, especially sleep aids, nerve pain drugs and antidepressants. Many patients are still evaluated on their history alone, and your Connecticut provider will tell you if more is needed.

How long does certification take in Connecticut?

The provider visit takes about 15 minutes. Usually within 1–2 weeks.

Can I renew online in Connecticut?

In most cases, yes. Your registration expires one year after your provider certified you, so you need a new certification from your provider each year to stay active.
