Michigan medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program
Answers to the questions Michigan patients ask most, based on the Michigan Medical Marijuana Program (MMMP)'s own guidance.
How much does a Michigan medical marijuana card cost?
The state application fee is $40 for a card valid two years, with or without a caregiver. The physician visit is billed separately by the doctor.
How long does it take to get my card?
By law, the program has 15 business days to approve or deny an application and 5 more to issue the card or denial letter. Allow another 7 to 10 business days for mail.
Can a Michigan doctor certify me by telehealth?
The Medical Marihuana Act requires a relevant in-person medical evaluation as part of the physician-patient relationship. CRA does not publish any telehealth exception, so plan on an in-person visit.
Do I have to be a Michigan resident?
Yes. You must submit a Michigan driver's license, Michigan state ID or Michigan voter registration (with a photo ID) as proof of residency.
Can my application serve as a temporary card?
No. CRA says you need your registry card plus a photo ID for legal protection. Online applicants receive a temporary card by email once approved.
