Maryland medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program
Answers to the questions Maryland patients ask most, based on the Maryland Medical Cannabis Program's own guidance.
How much does a Maryland medical cannabis card cost?
Registering as a patient is free. A plastic ID card is optional and costs $25, but the fee is waived for Maryland Medicaid and VA Maryland Health Care System enrollees. Provider visit fees are set by the provider.
Is it worth registering now that adult-use is legal in Maryland?
Registered patients pay no sales tax on cannabis, can buy products dispensaries must reserve for patients, and may possess the amount their certification allows. Some dispensaries also offer patient-only hours or lines.
Can I get certified by telehealth in Maryland?
MCA's rules describe the provider relationship as including an in-person or telehealth assessment, and renewal assessments may be done by telehealth. Audio-only phone calls do not qualify.
What conditions qualify in Maryland?
The list includes cachexia, anorexia, wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma and PTSD. Providers may also certify another severe chronic condition when other treatments have failed.
How do minors register in Maryland?
A parent or legal guardian applies for the minor through OneStop and must register as the minor's caregiver. Minor patients receive a free ID card.
