7 things to know about Maine's medical marijuana program

Maine's Medical Use of Cannabis Program is run by the Office of Cannabis Policy, part of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services. Patients do not register with the state. Instead, a Maine-licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant issues a written certification on tamper-resistant paper or as a matching digital image. Patients show that certification to registered caregivers and medical dispensaries. Maine has no fixed list of conditions: a provider can certify any patient whose diagnosis they believe cannabis may ease. Certifications last up to one year. Patients may grow at home, and Maine also serves visiting patients from approved states.
