Colorado medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program

Answers to the questions Colorado patients ask most, based on the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry's own guidance.

Can I get a Colorado medical marijuana card through telehealth?

No. CDPHE says recommendations must be made during an in-person visit in a clinical setting, and telemedicine recommendations are prohibited.

How long does it take to get my Colorado card?

Complete online applications are usually approved within 1-3 business days. You then download your card from your registry account.

How much does the Colorado card cost?

The registry charges a $52 nonrefundable fee for each application. Households at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level can apply for a fee waiver with a tax return.

I'm 19 — is the process different for me?

Yes. If you did not have a card before age 18, you need certifications from two providers at different medical practices each year, unless you are homebound.

How do I renew my Colorado card?

You can renew online within 30 days of expiration. Provider certifications last no more than one year, so you need a new in-person visit and certification each time.
