California vs. Nevada medical marijuana card: how they compare
Live near the California–Nevada line? You can only get a card in the state where you live, but here's how the two programs compare.
Side by side
| California | Nevada | |
|---|---|---|
| First visit online | Yes | Yes |
| State fee | Set by each county, up to $100 | $50 for 1 year or $100 for 2 years |
| Card lasts | Up to 1 year | 1 or 2 years |
| Patient limit | 8 ounces of dried marijuana per patient | 2.5 oz of usable cannabis in any 14-day period |
| Home grow | 6 mature or 12 immature plants per patient | Up to 12 plants, only if you live more than 25 miles from a dispensary (or meet other limited exceptions, such as being unable to travel) |

Residency is what matters
Both programs are for residents. Moving across the line means applying again in your new state — and you can't carry cannabis between them.
