Arizona medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program
Answers to the questions Arizona patients ask most, based on the Arizona Medical Marijuana Program's own guidance.
How much does an Arizona medical marijuana card cost?
ADHS charges $150 for a new or renewal patient card, or $75 for SNAP recipients. The physician evaluation is billed separately by the provider.
How long is an Arizona card valid?
Cards issued under current law last two years. You can start your renewal in the ADHS portal 90 days before the card expires.
Is a medical card still worth it now that adult use is legal?
For many patients, yes. Medical purchases skip the 16% adult-use excise tax, and cardholders under 21 can access cannabis legally.
Can a minor get a medical marijuana card in Arizona?
Yes. Two physicians must certify the child, and a custodial parent or legal guardian must consent and act as the designated caregiver.
Can I grow my own cannabis as a medical patient?
Only if your card authorizes cultivation. Authorized patients or caregivers may keep up to 12 plants in an enclosed, locked area.
