Alabama medical marijuana FAQ: answers from the official program
Answers to the questions Alabama patients ask most, based on the Alabama Medical Cannabis Program (Darren Wesley 'Ato' Hall Compassion Act)'s own guidance.
Can I get an Alabama medical cannabis card through a telehealth visit?
No. State medical board rules prohibit telemedicine for medical cannabis certifications and recertifications. You and the certifying physician must both be physically in Alabama for the visit.
How much does an Alabama medical cannabis card cost?
The AMCC charges $40 for a virtual card or $50 for a physical card, and the same amounts each year to renew. The physician visit is a separate cost.
Can I buy cannabis flower or vapes in Alabama?
No. Alabama law allows only non-smokable forms such as capsules, tablets, tinctures, lozenges, topicals, patches, suppositories and inhaler products. Raw plant material, vapes and food products are not permitted.
How much can I buy at once?
Purchases are based on the daily dose your physician sets, up to a 60-day supply per purchase period. You may never hold more than 70 daily doses at one time.
Can my child get a medical cannabis card?
Yes, if a parent or legal guardian registers as the child's caregiver. Patients under 19 are limited to products with no more than 3% THC.
Will Alabama accept my out-of-state medical card?
No. Alabama cards are issued only to Alabama residents, and non-residents cannot obtain or use them even while visiting.
